I was in Harlem with a friend recently in a McDonalds and while in line I hear a woman mumbling and our conversation goes as follows.

WOMAN: I don’t understand why all these people are moving so slow, and I cant even understand what they’re saying
*I continue waiting in the long line pretending not to listen to her* 
WOMAN: Its a shame that AMERICANS can’t get a job these days, they would do it much better
*……holding back my tongue*
WOMAN: +pulls out a news paper clipping+ It’s been quoted that the UNITED STATES IMMIGRATION SERVICES would build a fence around the country so tight that not even a cockroach could get in….YOU HEAR THAT?! NOT EVEN A COCKROACH
* I turn around *
ME: Excuse me maim, I couldn’t help but overhear your demeaning analogy of Immigrants to cockroaches
WOMAN: I was just reading an article
*this is when i realized this woman had to be bi-polar but I continued to talk*
ME: In case you forgot maim, none of us here are exactly “AMERICANS” matter of fact , AMERICA ISN’T EVEN AMERICA. These people working at this establishment are merely making a living, and a honest one at that. We came into this country without force or violence…..oh wait… forgive me ….are you a certified native american ?
*waits for her to show me documentation*
ME: oh right i didn’t think so you didnt seem to look Apache,Walapai or Cherokee … but you know… i don’t like to ASSUME THINGS ABOUT OTHERS…. and you should do the same….so before you criticize people…. lets look inward…because you and YOUR ANCESTORS werent exactly welcomed into this land with open arms either.

In response to this… I went to get cornrows at a braiding parlor next door… because IGNORANCE is still alive and kicking in this country…. and in case you didn’t realize… open your eyes and look around ….its everywhere… so I decided to do my part to break it down as a minority scientist….. because people need to know the face of america is changing… and conformity is for the weak.
